Jetstar Japan (GK) are my default choice for this short international hop, and for good reason. They do exactly what’s printed on the tin: no frills, no fuss, and no nasty surprises. Bang on schedule – won’t always be the case but this particular flight was. Legroom is tight, though adequate for my small frame; a larger lad will find it a bit of a squeeze and should consider paying extra for an exit row or bulkhead. The most basic fare class will get you nothing other than passage and 7 kg of cabin luggage. I paid a bit more for a package that also gave me an assigned seat, 20 kg of checked baggage, and the meal seen in the pictures. Exactly what you need from a budget airline, nothing more and nothing less.
I should add that Qantas (parent of the Jetstar group) have recently decided to sell their stake in GK to Japan Airlines, and whilst the airline will continue to operate normally in the interim a rebrand is expected by mid-2027. Come that time, assuming – as I hope – that the entity itself is still operating, they’ll likely be flying under a completely different name.
